Founded in 2017, Chi Yu Samba Team is a community-based group with members from all over Taiwan, ranging from the oldest to the youngest generations. The team has participated in numerous activities and witnessed the evolution and richness of Taiwanese culture. In addition, there are international students from countries such as Africa, India, Brazil, and Colombia who participate in different activities during the summer and winter breaks, demonstrating the team’s multiculturalism and internationalism. Combining the visual design of Santaizi (literally “the Divine Third Prince”) and Hakka floral cloths from Taiwan’s temple culture, their performances feature a fusion of Eastern and Western characteristics, bringing the Samba rhythm of the Brazilian Carnival to Taiwan. In 2023, Chi Yu Samba Team won the championship in the Liugdui Hakka Cultural Park Creative Parade Competition, and this year, the team is participating in the celebration of “Tainan 400” (quadricentennial anniversary of Tainan) and 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival. The team looks forward to promoting art and culture and delivering a rich visual and artistic feast to the public.
