Founded in 1998, the Hwei-Lan Indigenous Peoples Dance Troupe  is an officially registered indigenous performing arts group in Tainan City. The ensemble was initially named after "Hwei-Lan"—the ancient name for Hualien—since many of its early members were of the Amis tribe from that region. Today, it brings together indigenous individuals from various tribes who study or work in Tainan and neighboring counties, alongside other members who share a profound passion for indigenous culture.
Over the years, the troupe has not only actively participated in domestic dance competitions and guest performances but has also represented Taiwan at international arts festivals across four continents—with footprints in Japan, the United States, Nepal, South Korea, China, Turkey, Singapore, and Australia. Through these platforms, it proudly showcases Taiwan's unique indigenous music and dance culture to the world.
The ensemble's primary mission is to foster a sense of cohesion among indigenous people living away from their hometowns, passing down their ethnic heritage through the art of music and dance. Since 2004, the troupe has actively reached out to schools and community organizations to conduct cultural education and promotional programs, inspiring the broader public to deeply understand and value Taiwan's rich indigenous cultural heritage.
