Folk Dance Group Ligo was founded in the spring of 1945, and they held the first concert in their hometown Riga. The title of the group “Ligo” is borrowed from the traditional Latvian midsummer celebration Ligo – the most joyful holiday that is enjoyed by every single Latvian. The dance group with its leaders have always aimed to encourage the spheres of culture that are inseparably connected through dance traditions – Latvia’s rich heritage of folk music and traditional costumes.

Over the years, Ligo has participated in various types of concerts, national festivals and competitions, ballet productions, and even in the movie industry, earning it high acclaim and becoming one of the five best folk-dance groups in Latvia. In addition to more than 40 concerts per year in Latvia, the company performs a dozen original dances each year, with unique styles and exquisite choreography, most of which have won major awards at the national level.
