When the drums begin, everyone joins the fun!
One drumbeat sounds, then another, building into layers of rhythm. Dancers step and sway to the beat, filling the room with excitement! The First Federal Brotherhood Drummers, from the Caribbean island nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, will bring vibrant drumming and dance to take you on a cultural journey you can hear, see, and feel.
What can a drumbeat express? How do different rhythms inspire different dance steps? Through live demonstrations, the performers will explore the connection between drumming and dance and introduce how African drumming traditions are expressed in Caribbean culture. You do not need to know music theory or how to dance. Just follow the beat and discover how welcoming music can be.
The most exciting part is turning “watching a performance” into “joining in”! Simple clapping, rhythm imitation, and movement activities will invite everyone to find the beat and enjoy making music together. Adults can soak up the infectious energy, while children can discover a new window onto world cultures through sound and movement.
