The Department of Drama at the University of Malaya (Universiti Malaya) established the team known as Sri Malaya in 2014, with the aim of promoting and passing on the traditional performing arts. The team consists of drama students and staff from the Faculty of Creative Arts, as well as professional artists from home and abroad. Sri Malaya is active in various traditional performing arts activities in Malaysia and overseas, and is committed to enhancing the reputation of the Department of Drama at the University of Malaya in the country, Southeast Asia, the entire Asia, and the world, as well as promoting the development and expansion of traditional performing arts in the international arena.

Sri Malaya’s performances are characterized by a unique artistic style of dance theatre that incorporates versatile musical, linguistic and choreographic elements. These dance dramas not only present the richness of traditional culture, but also combine old and new styles of performance to promote intercultural exchange and understanding. The team’s performances are full of creativity and vitality, and each show brings a unique visual and auditory experience to the audience, which not only demonstrates the strength of the Department of Drama at the University of Malaya, but also injects fresh impetus into Malaysia’s traditional performing arts.
