Rooted in Malaysia's Chinese dance tradition, the ensemble blends fan dance, folk movement, and festive choreography with polished contemporary staging.
 

★ Founded in 2005, Han Feng Dance Ensemble is listed in the official arts directory of Malaysia’s National Department for Culture and Arts (Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara, JKKN) and has devoted more than 20 years to Chinese dance.

Han Feng Dance Ensemble was formally registered in 2005 and is one of Malaysia’s nonprofit dance organizations. It has long promoted the local development of Chinese dance. The ensemble is also listed in the arts directory of Malaysia’s National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN), which notes that under Artistic Director Justin Wong, the group continues to promote and preserve Chinese dance while exploring ways to combine tradition with innovation. It trains both professional and amateur dancers and presents the dance practices of Malaysia’s Chinese community through stage performances, competitions, and cultural exchange.

The ensemble places strong emphasis on the overall aesthetics of costume, music, and choreography. Its repertoire often includes fan dances, ethnic dance, classical movement vocabulary, and group works with festive imagery. Unlike groups centered on a single ethnic tradition, Han Feng’s cultural position also reflects Malaysia’s multicultural social context: Chinese dance forms the core of its repertoire, while performances can also be viewed in dialogue with Malay, Sabah, Sarawak, and other cultural traditions, highlighting the region’s coexistence of multiple communities.
