Taiwan
Onini Singers Onini西拉雅竹音合唱團

Once considered an extinct language, Siraya made its historic return to Taiwan’s stage in 1997 through the power of song. Supported by the association, the Onini Singers serve as angelic messengers of this cultural revival. Their voices, rooted in the land and mountains, resonate through indigenous communities, cultural venues, and concert halls. They have transcended borders to perform as far away as the Netherlands, while also standing alongside the Siraya name rectification movement to inspire the people.
Blending adapted ancient melodies with modern compositions, Onini's repertoire has culminated in four musicals and over 400 live performances. The ensemble boasts a diverse and highly accomplished membership, including nominees and laureates of the 24th, 30th, and 32nd Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music in categories such as Best Composition, Best Album, Best Singer, and Best Lyrics. The group also features Tainan Culture Award winners, a Golden Bell Award-nominated photographer, and distinguished literary talents, all of whom are deeply engaged in indigenous language teaching, cultural preservation, and biodiversity conservation.
Their award-winning album, Mururawa Siraya—Siraya Is Singing, serves as a testament to how these creators and vocalists transform their profound affection for the land into poetry. Through the captivating art of multi-part choral singing, they interpret diverse world languages while firmly maintaining their Siraya cultural subjectivity, achieving deep resonance through cross-cultural exchange.
