With live music and energetic group dances, the ensemble presents traditions from across Romania, including Transylvania, Maramureș, Banat, and Moldavia.
Romanasul-UTCN Folk Ensemble was founded in 1974 by students of the Polytechnic Institute of Cluj-Napoca and is now part of the cultural system of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN). Students, faculty members, and professional artistic instructors participate in the ensemble, which has long promoted Romanian folk culture through dance, singing, and music. It has also collaborated with university scholars and folklore institutions to research traditional culture and adapt it for the stage. Over the years, the ensemble has been active in festivals, tours, and competitions in Romania and abroad, receiving numerous awards. In 1984, its traditional dances were also documented on 35 mm film, giving the ensemble’s work both artistic and cultural-preservation value.
