In Renaissance costume, the troupe performs spectacular flag tossing, synchronized formations, drums, and historic trumpets, bringing the pageantry of Cori to life.
Sbandieratori dei Rioni di Cori was founded in 1966 in the historic town of Cori in Italy’s Lazio region. Centered on Renaissance-style flag throwing, drumming, and heraldic trumpet performance, the group has long worked to preserve and promote local history and culture. Through its founder Giovanni Pistilli, the group participated in the establishment of the Federazione Italiana Sbandieratori and CIOFF Italia. Since its founding, it has appeared at more than 1,500 events around the world, including Olympic-related events, world expositions, and United Nations-related occasions. It has also organized international folklore festivals over many years, accumulating extensive experience in international performance and cultural exchange.
【Performance Highlights】
Performers wear traditional costumes reconstructed from Renaissance-period historical sources and manipulate large flags through demanding techniques such as throws, catches, spins, crossings, and synchronized multi-person sequences. The performance is accompanied live by drums and Renaissance-style chiarina trumpets. Flags and costumes make extensive use of colors and motifs associated with Cori’s local families, districts, and historical symbols, and some programs also incorporate Renaissance-style longswords. When multiple large flags are thrown into the air at once, vivid colors, sweeping flag trajectories, and precise formations combine to create a spectacular image that is the group’s signature stage feature.
