Te Kapa Haka o Te Hau Tawhiti 特豪・塔菲蒂毛利歌舞團

Through waiata, poi, and haka, the group celebrates Māori culture with powerful rhythm, unified movement, expressive performance, and commanding stage presence.

★ Te Kapa Haka o Te Hau Tawhiti qualified through the Australian regional selection process to compete at Te Matatini, New Zealand’s national Māori performing arts festival, as one of the qualifying groups from Australia.

Te Kapa Haka o Te Hau Tawhiti is based in Queensland, Australia, and is made up of Māori performers living in Australia. Through the traditional Māori performing art of kapa haka, the group works to pass on Māori language, song, dance, and cultural identity. It has established a strong presence in Australia’s Māori performing-arts community and has qualified to compete at Te Matatini, New Zealand’s national Māori performing arts festival. The official 2026 regional qualification list includes Te Hau Tawhiti as a representative of the Australian region, Te Whenua Moemoeā.

【Performance Highlights】
The performance combines Māori waiata (traditional song), action songs, poi, and haka. In poi, female performers spin tethered balls to create rhythm and flowing movement, supported by group harmonies and precisely coordinated actions that produce rich visual and sonic layers. Performances often build to the powerful energy of haka, with stamping, body slaps, expansive gestures, and pūkana—intense facial expressions such as widened eyes and protruding tongues. Voice, breath, facial expression, and full-body movement are tightly integrated, creating a vivid and unmistakably Māori performance style.
