Founded in 2019, Fukuoka University Japan Drummers — Hikari is dedicated to promoting and passing on the culture of Japanese taiko drumming. They specialize in playing traditional Japanese taiko drums of all sizes, from large-scale war drums to small-scale tambourines, and exhibit their unique tones and rhythms. Hikari’s strong and powerful performance style has been known for captivating the audience’s attention.

With the aim of delivering the best performance, the drummers practice hard every day, in spite of the weather, to give their utmost efforts. They also actively participate in various major events, honing their skills and performance techniques by performing with drum groups from other parts of Japan. In recent years, Hikari has performed at international festivals such as 2019 Young Prague Festival, 2023 International Folklore Festival Aviano, and 2023 Thailand International Music Festival. Their performances have stepped out of Japan to showcase the unique charm of Japanese taiko drumming in the international arena.
